Finnish Society for Studies on Men

Purpose and activities of the society

The purpose of the Finnish Society for Studies on Men is to further the
advancement of gender studies on men and masculinities in Finland. We
support networking and cooperation between researchers in the field by
arranging research seminars and other meetings for researchers, as well as
by passing on information about events in the field. The Society maintains
close relationships to researchers on men and masculinities in the other
Nordic countries. To support the teaching of studies on men, the Society
e.g. furthers the development of new Finnish text books on the topic.

The Society also strives to further gender equality by providing
policy-makers with scientific knowledge. It has representatives in the
working committees of the Council for Gender Equality, appointed by the
Finnish parliament. It also furthers the dissemination of research findings
by conveying interview requests from the media to experts in the field.
